Trek Topfuel 9.8

Christmas has come early this year in the form of a new bike in the stable. To complement my Trek Superfly 9.8SL hardtail, Cyco and Cyclesport NZ have helped to get me sorted on a Trek Topfuel 9.8.

The Topfuel is Trek’s latest cross country full suspension bike (more info here). It is an evolution of the Superfly platform, with short chainstays and G2 geometry to keep the handling snappy and light. In a change for me it also includes the new Boost 148/110 hub spacing. The wider hubs mean increased stiffness for wheels, chainstays and forks.

I’ve had my first ride in earnest on the Topfuel – an extended commute home in the Redwoods after a busy night at work. Even with some jaded legs the bike flies. My strava segments agree – a new PR down Eagle vs Shark doesn’t lie. I’m itching to get some more Km’s in! Look out for a more in depth review soon.

Check out the PR on Eagle. Not bad for first ride on a new bike.
